250 venues across 82 areas — from city-centre convention floors to country estates.
KwaZulu-Natal is South Africa's third-largest conference province, anchored by the Durban ICC — one of Africa's most flexible large-scale venues. Durban itself covers the main CBD, Umhlanga (the modern business hub with direct highway access from King Shaka International) and the Upper Highway (Hillcrest, Kloof, Pinetown, Westville — where many corporate campuses sit). The KZN North Coast (Ballito, Salt Rock) combines coastal resort venues with easy airport access, ideal for mid-sized incentive and training events. The Midlands around Pietermaritzburg, Howick and Nottingham Road are prime for executive off-sites with country hotels and a cooler climate. The South Coast and Drakensberg extend the range to leisure-linked conferences and family-friendly corporate retreats.
KwaZulu-Natal stretches from the Drakensberg escarpment to the Indian Ocean coast and combines tropical conferencing on the warm coast with country-retreat venues in the Midlands and mountains. Durban is the third-largest metro in the country and the province's main commercial centre.
Durban and Umhlanga. The Durban ICC is one of Africa's most flexible large-scale venues — purpose-built for 10,000+ delegate conferences and exhibitions, sitting opposite the Suncoast Casino on the Durban beachfront. Umhlanga, 25 minutes north along the M4, has steadily eclipsed the Durban CBD as the modern corporate-conference hub: dense four- and five-star hotel stock, the Umhlanga Rocks promenade, direct highway access to King Shaka International, and the Gateway shopping precinct. The Upper Highway suburbs (Westville, Pinetown, Hillcrest, Kloof) handle local-audience and academic-sector events at lower price points.
The North Coast. Ballito, Salt Rock, Zimbali and the broader Dolphin Coast offer beachfront resort venues and golf-estate conferencing within an hour of King Shaka International. Strong fit for incentive programmes, multi-day retreats and destination conferences. The North Coast pulls in stronger from May to September when the high-summer crowds have thinned.
The Midlands and Drakensberg. The Midlands Meander (Howick, Nottingham Road, Mooi River) and the Central and Northern Drakensberg cater for executive retreats and longer corporate offsites. Cooler climate, country-hotel character, and a slower pace — best for strategy work and partner programmes that include hiking or fishing.
The South Coast. Margate, Hibberdene and the broader Hibiscus Coast are budget-friendly resort venues — popular for community-sector conferences, training programmes and mid-market corporate events that can travel cheaply.
Transport and climate. King Shaka International (Durban) handles direct flights to all major SA cities and limited international destinations. Pietermaritzburg and Margate have small regional airports. Climate is subtropical — warm year-round on the coast, cooler inland, with summer rainfall (October–March) and pleasant dry winters.
