Klerksdorp is a mid-sized city in the southern North West Province, about 170 km south-west of Johannesburg on the N12. It is one of the country's historic gold-mining centres — the greater metropolitan area incorporates Stilfontein, Orkney, Kanana, Khuma, Tigane, and Hartbeesfontein, all built on the Witwatersrand reef's southern extension — and an active agricultural hub for sunflowers, maize, sorghum, and groundnuts. Getting there
